Two extracts.

It was the lady who came on board with eight hats who misled me. One for every day of the week, I supposed, and two on Sunday. Mind you when a stiff breeze is blowing across the decks of the ship, then you could get through several hats in the course of a voyage. We noticed they floated quite well - brim uppermost.

A little number in red resembled an eyeshade. Not that it would be very efficient, it reminded me of an open venetian blind. We find the same problem here with the palm trees. Their leaves are so sparse and slender that most of the sun's rays filter through and there is little protection from the sun. There were models for every kind of woman. For the complex personality - a collection of mathematical cusps and curves, all intertwined in an intricate fashion. The one representing half of Saturn, complete with rings, was presumably for the astrologically minded.
